THC Edible Dosage Chart: What Every Dose Actually Does (2.5mg to 1,000mg+)

THC Edible Dosage Chart: What Every Dose Actually Does (2.5mg to 1,000mg+)

Posted by Y. Pavlov on Sep 21st 2026

Every day someone stands at our counter holding two gummy jars. One says 2.5mg per piece. The other says 750mg per piece, and the question is always the same: what do these numbers feel like? The internet answers with vague ranges and legal disclaimers, so we wrote the chart we actually use at the counter. What each level does, who it's for, how to climb between them, and why a huge edible sometimes does nothing at all.

Start Here:

  • Edible doses run on a ladder: 2.5mg (microdose) → 5–10mg (standard) → 15–25mg (moderate) → 50–100mg (high) → 250mg+ (the heavyweight tier). Each rung is its own experience. A 25mg night has almost nothing in common with a 5mg afternoon.
  • Beginners start at 2.5–5mg and wait a full two hours before judging. The most common edible mistake in existence is re-dosing at minute 45.
  • Milligrams aren't the whole story — tolerance, body chemistry, what you've eaten, and the cannabinoid blend all move the experience. That's why a 500mg gummy can flatten one person and barely reach another.
  • We stock every rung as its own shoppable shelf, from 2.5mg microdoses to 1,000mg-per-piece monsters, so you can shop by the number that fits instead of guessing from a wall of jars.
  • All of it — every rung, every brand — shows on a drug test. Dose changes the experience, not the metabolites.

How to read the ladder

Two rules make the whole chart work. First: edibles are a different drug-delivery system than smoking. Your liver converts THC into 11-hydroxy-THC, which hits harder and lasts far longer. Eating 10mg is a different event than smoking it: onset takes 45 minutes to 2 hours and the experience runs 4 to 8. Plan the whole evening. Second: move one rung at a time. Tolerance builds gradually. Jumping from 10mg to 100mg because 10 "stopped working" skips right past the rungs where your real dose probably lives.

The dosage chart

Dose per piece What it does Who it's for Shop the shelf
2.5mg (microdose) Sub-intoxicating: subtle mood lift, no impairment for most Absolute beginners, daytime users, "I don't want to feel high" Microdose THC
5–10mg The standard dose: clear, social, functional-to-floaty Most people, most of the time Low dose
15–25mg Fully recreational: strong body effects, evening-only territory Regular users past the standard rung Moderate dose
50–100mg Heavy: long, deep, plans-canceling for most tolerances Experienced, frequent users High dose
250–1,000mg+ The heavyweight tier: cut-and-portion products, never whole pieces Maximum-tolerance veterans only Very high dose

Now each rung, honestly.

2.5mg — the microdose rung

Microdosing means taking enough THC to shift mood and take the edge off without crossing into feeling high — for most people that lands between 1 and 3mg, and 2.5mg is the standard cut. It's the fastest-growing corner of our edibles wall, because it's THC for people with jobs, kids, and Tuesday obligations. Brands built for precision live here — 1906 makes pill-format doses engineered for exact effects alongside classic 2.5mg gummies. (Microdose THC mints are the format people search for most at this rung; we don't carry them yet, and our shelf covers the same few-milligram territory in gummy and pill formats today.) Browse the microdose THC collection for the full shelf, and if even 2.5mg is more than you want, the THC-free edibles shelf — Charlotte's Web and friends — covers the zero rung.

The honest note: at this dose, some people feel nothing at all, and that's the design working. Microdosing is a consistency play — small amounts, regularly — not a lighter version of getting high.

5–10mg — the standard dose

This is the rung dispensaries built their menus on: 5mg is the cautious standard, 10mg the confident one. Expect a clear arrival around the hour mark: relaxed, talkative, music sounds better. At the low end you keep the plot of your evening. The national brands you already know live here: Wyld and Wana built their reputations on precisely dosed 10mg pieces, and it's what we hand people who say "I had edibles at a party once and liked it." Start with 5mg if you're new; take the full 10mg only after 5 has introduced itself. The low dose collection carries the whole rung.

15–25mg — the moderate rung

Here the training wheels come off: 20mg is fully recreational for most tolerances — strong body effects, real euphoria, a night designed around the experience rather than alongside it. This is also where set and setting start mattering. Take it in the evening, at home, with nowhere you need to drive. Users typically arrive here after months at 10mg, not weeks. Shop it on the moderate dose shelf, and if you're specifically chasing sleep, the sleep gummies collection pairs this rung's doses with CBN — Snoozy built its whole line on that combination.

50–100mg — the high-dose rung

Twice to four times the moderate rung, and it feels like it. These are long, heavy, deeply physical experiences that most tolerances can't walk off. A 100mg gummy — the classic "is there a 100mg gummy?" question — absolutely exists, and it's a serious dose that veteran users respect. At this rung our standing advice stops being advice. Don't take it before obligations, and don't combine it with alcohol. If you don't know how it hits you on an empty stomach, don't find out at 100mg. The high dose collection covers 50–100mg per piece, and our mini packs are the smart way to trial a stronger brand without committing to a full jar.

250mg–1,000mg+ — the heavyweight tier

The top of the ladder is a different product category wearing a gummy costume. Pieces here run 250mg to 1,000mg each — Hixotic's Dome Wreckers at 550mg, the Torch Hulk at 750mg, Flying Horse's THC-P gummies at a full 1,000mg per piece — and every one of them is a cut-and-portion product: you quarter it, you don't eat it. These exist for genuine maximum-tolerance users, they're the subject of our full strongest THC gummies breakdown, and they're stacked with amplifier cannabinoids like THC-P (our blend decoder explains what those do). The very high dose collection is the shelf — approach it like the top rung of a ladder, because it is one.

"I ate a 500mg edible and felt nothing" — the tolerance problem, explained

We hear a version of this weekly, and it's a real phenomenon with real causes, so here's the straight answer. Three things produce it. Tolerance is the big one. Daily use downregulates your endocannabinoid receptors, and a heavy consumer can require several times a beginner's dose to feel anything. The fix is a tolerance break, and even 3 to 7 days resets receptors meaningfully. A bigger jar just moves the problem. Metabolism is the second. A minority of people convert oral THC inefficiently, and they're the same people who feel edibles late or weakly every single time. For them, nano THC gummies often work where standard gummies don't, since nano-emulsified THC partially bypasses the slow digestive route. Product reality is the third. An unverified gummy from a gas station may simply not contain what the bag claims. Every jar on our shelves carries a batch COA for exactly this reason, and "500mg" from a random source isn't a data point about your tolerance.

Three reasons a strong THC edible produces no effect tolerance metabolism and unverified products

Our full tolerance break guide covers how long to take, what the first week feels like, and how to come back at the right dose.

The rules that apply to every rung

  1. Start low, wait two full hours, judge, then decide. Not 45 minutes. The delayed second wave is where every edible horror story begins.
  2. Move one rung at a time. The ladder works because the spacing is deliberate.
  3. Check per-piece, not per-jar. A 10,000mg jar of 500mg pieces and a 250mg jar of 12.5mg pieces are opposite products with similar-looking labels.
  4. Read the COA. Verified milligrams are the only milligrams that count.
  5. Every rung shows on a drug test. Including the microdose. THC metabolites accumulate regardless of dose size, and hemp-derived changes nothing about that.

Legal note

Everything on this ladder is hemp-derived under the 2018 Farm Bill's 0.3% Delta-9 threshold — the reason a 750mg gummy can be federally legal is that the limit is a concentration by weight, not a per-piece cap. State law varies and keeps moving, with the November 2025 federal hemp law reshaping the category into late 2026; our cannabis laws by state guide stays current. 21+ only; don't use THC products while pregnant or nursing.

FAQ

How many mg of edibles should a beginner take?

Start at 2.5–5mg and wait two full hours before considering more. If that produces little, try 5–10mg the next session — not the same night. Most people find their long-term dose between 5 and 25mg.

Is a 10mg edible a lot?

It's the industry-standard full dose: clearly noticeable for most people, strong for a first-timer, routine for a regular user. If you've never had edibles, take half.

What is microdosing THC?

Taking sub-intoxicating amounts — typically 1–3mg — for mood benefits without feeling high or impaired. It's built for daytime, functional use, and it's the fastest-growing segment of our edibles wall.

Do you sell microdose THC mints?

Not yet — mints are the fastest-growing microdose format, and they're on our radar. Today our microdose collection covers the same 1–3mg territory in gummy form and precision pill-format doses from brands like 1906, which deliver the identical sub-intoxicating effect.

Is a 100mg edible strong?

Very. It's ten standard doses in one piece — a dose experienced users plan an evening around and beginners should not touch. Products at and above 100mg exist for established tolerances.

Why did a huge edible do nothing for me?

Usually tolerance from regular use, sometimes inefficient oral-THC metabolism (nano-emulsified products often solve that), and occasionally an unverified product that didn't contain its label claim. A short tolerance break beats a bigger dose almost every time.

How long do edibles take to kick in?

45 minutes to 2 hours, with effects lasting 4–8 hours depending on dose and metabolism. Onset is slower on a full stomach and faster with nano formulations.

Will low-dose edibles show up on a drug test?

Yes. THC metabolites accumulate with regular use at any dose — a daily 2.5mg microdoser can absolutely test positive. Dose size changes the experience, not the test.
