The Hemp Doctor

Why Did a Family Found The Hemp Doctor and What Is the Courtney Shade Origin Story?

In 2009, Robert and Cindy Shade's daughter Courtney was 18 when a car accident left her with a broken back and injuries requiring multiple surgeries. For the next nine years, she lived with chronic pain while cycling through traditional treatments that produced limited and inconsistent relief. In 2018, during recovery from reconstructive surgery, she encountered hemp-derived cannabinoids and experienced what the previous decade of medical treatment had not delivered. The Shades did not start a brand because they saw a market opportunity. They started it because they had personal evidence of what these products could do and wanted to create a place where other people could access them with the same kind of honest, knowledgeable guidance the family wished they had found earlier.

The Hemp Doctor launched in 2019 from a single store in Mooresville, North Carolina. By 2025 the brand had grown to four retail locations — Mooresville, Concord, Huntersville and Salisbury — earned "Best of Iredell" recognition across multiple years and built a customer base of over 100,000 returning buyers. The Trustpilot rating sits at 4.6 with over 3,700 verified reviews and 5,000+ five-star Yotpo reviews. That growth is not the point of the origin story. The origin is the reason the quality controls exist: when you build a brand because your family needed it, the testing standards are not marketing.

What Are ZOOTED, KAYO and PHUK'D UP — The Hemp Doctor's Three Sub-Brands?

The Hemp Doctor does not release products under a single brand identity. They built three distinct sub-lines, each targeting a specific consumer position and potency tier.

ZOOTED is the high-dose recreational line — built for experienced consumers who want maximum potency per serving. The ZOOTED D9 THC Ropes deliver 150mg Delta-9 per rope. The ZOOTED PHUK'D UP THC Blend Gummies run 420mg per bag — browse the full extreme-dose hemp edibles at ProCannabis for every high-milligram edible format alongside ZOOTED. The ZOOTED D9 THC Seltzer pushes 100mg Delta-9 per can with nano-emulsification for 15 to 20 minute onset — one of the highest-dose high-dose THC drinks on the hemp market. ZOOTED products are not for casual or new cannabis consumers. They exist for the buyer who has worked through standard potency tiers and wants something that actually moves the needle.

KAYO is the multi-cannabinoid premium line — built around flavour engineering and blended cannabinoid formulas rather than raw dose. KAYO's Original THC Blend Disposable runs 3g of multi-cannabinoid live resin oil. KAYO Rapid Release THC Blend Gummies at 30mg use nano-emulsification for fast onset. KAYO Delta-9 THC Brownies, Freeze Pops and Drink Mix bring the multi-cannabinoid approach into formats that would not look out of place in a licensed dispensary. KAYO is the everyday premium line — potent without requiring extreme tolerance.

PHUK'D UP is the THCA concentrate and high-potency inhalation line — Caviar Blunts, Sugar Diamond Pre-Rolls, Live Sauce Disposables and a 6.5g Mega Disposable. For flower and concentrate consumers who want the full dispensary-grade inhalation experience from federally compliant hemp-derived THCA.

What THCA Flower and Concentrates Does The Hemp Doctor Make?

The Hemp Doctor sources their THCA flower from organic farms in Colorado and North Carolina. Their ZAZA THCA Exotic Flower line — released in a 26-strain drop in 2025 — is grown indoors using living soil methods, a cultivation practice that enhances terpene and cannabinoid expression by feeding the plant through a living microbial ecosystem rather than synthetic nutrients. The 26 strains average 20 to 35% THCA by lab testing, with standout cultivars exceeding 35%. All hand-trimmed and slow-cured.

Their concentrate range is one of the most developed in the hemp space. THCA Bubble Hash at 68.86% THCA through solventless ice-water extraction. THCA Sugar Diamond Sauce at 1,376mg per 2g jar. THCA Batter in strain-specific whipped form. Sugar Diamond Caviar Blunts — flower, diamonds and kief in one. The Fresh Bloom subscription box delivers rotating premium THCA flower monthly for buyers who want curatorial access to new strains without the research. Browse the full THCA concentrates and extracts at ProCannabis for every solventless and concentrate format alongside The Hemp Doctor. Every concentrate is built for consumers who know what solventless means and why it matters.

What Does DEA-Certified Lab Testing Mean and Why Is It Above the Hemp Industry Standard?

The standard hemp industry phrase is "third-party lab tested." That phrase means an independent laboratory verified the product — but tells you nothing about what standard that laboratory operates under. DEA registration requires a testing facility to meet specific federal criteria for handling cannabinoid testing and controlled substance analogs — a regulatory level that most hemp testing laboratories do not hold. The Hemp Doctor's COAs come from DEA-certified facilities. The potency number on the label — whether it says 68.86% THCA on a concentrate or 25mg Delta-9 on a gummy — is verified by a lab operating under federal oversight, not just commercial accreditation. Every COA is published online per batch and accessible by lot number.

What Are The Hemp Doctor's Extended-Release Nighttime Gummies and How Does Dual-Phase Work?

The Hemp Doctor's CBN:CBD:D9 Extended-Release Nighttime Gummies are the most technically specific product in their edible range. The formula splits the dose between two delivery mechanisms: 50% of the cannabinoids are nano-emulsified for rapid onset within 15 to 30 minutes, and the remaining 50% use standard oil-based extraction for extended slow release over 4 to 6 hours. The result is a single gummy that produces an initial onset matching a fast-acting product, then sustains effects through the night rather than peaking and dropping. CBN as the primary sleep cannabinoid, CBD for relaxation baseline, trace Delta-9 for body depth. For consumers who wake in the middle of the night because a standard sleep gummy wore off, the dual-phase formula addresses the mechanism directly.
